Year of the Fire Horse : A Call for Lawyers to Step Forward

Year of the Fire Horse Chinese New Year Lawyers Blog

The moment for lawyers to step up

A date rooted in history

Tomorrow – 17th February – marks the start of the Chinese New Year: The Year of the Fire Horse, a date celebrated all over the world and apparently stretching back to a legal edict of Emperor Wu of the Han dynasty over 2,000 years ago…

Momentum. Independence. Bold action.

The Fire Horse is often associated with momentum, independence and bold action. It is about stepping forward with intent rather than waiting for certainty.

Why this matters for the legal profession

For lawyers, that feels relevant right now.

Clients are facing major turning points: separation, loss, injury, immigration, business growth, disputes and restructuring, all at a time of economic and political turmoil, where the rule of law is under threat from fake news, AI and certain political figureheads.

Or where millionaires in the UK are jetsetting off to tax havens like Dubai (see our Fantastic Dubai Law Firms & Lawyers page here) to leave a reducing number of people in the UK to pay an increasing level of tax, or so Rob Moore would have you believe.

People do not just need technical advice and they need more than just great law. They need calm leadership and practical direction.

A reminder from the Ayr shoreline

This evening, our Founder Gav Ward watched a fiery sunset in Ayr with his children Lucy and Rory (a few of the photos in the gallery undernoted). It was a simple reminder that intense moments can also signal progress and renewal.

Innovation as renewal

As an aside, and as one small sign of progress for the Fantastic Lawyers mission this year, Gav later showed Lucy and Rory his new Fantastic Lawyers Avatar Adder GPT invention. It may be the world’s first directory badge, avatar and scoring AI product (patent not pending, but if anyone does copy this in the future, you can see the date on this blog post above). See, for example, legal entrepreneur and digital agency owner Stephen Moore’s AI rating badge… Disclaimer: I made it a 99 so I could make a truly terrible ice cream pun about what I brought Stephen back from Ayr on my day off… and also just to note that none of this, including this rather random blog post, would have happened today if the children were actually interested in going to see Wuthering Heights at the cinema. I digress. Photos from the day in the gallery below with alt text that Lucy and Rory can read when they’re older (whichever one gets into IT and technology or keeps this site running for their old man; see also the 25:01 Easter Egg in dad’s profile linked above).

Fire Horse, the Fantastic Lawyers Mission and the Future

I digress again. At Fantastic Lawyers, our mission is to help people and businesses find trusted legal expertise when it matters most. If the Fire Horse means anything in this context, it is this:

  • Show up with courage, like Justitia with her sword.
  • Stay grounded, like Justitia with her scales.
  • Help clients move forward with clarity.

Onwards and upwards.
