Every now and then a post will go viral on LinkedIn. This was one such time thanks to Andrew Todd’s observation regarding chocolate biscuits in the boardrooms of law firms.
He noted the following on LinkedIn on Friday 24th April 2026 (also undernoted to preserve this in the future) :-
As at Monday 27th April, this had received over 1,400+ likes and 240+ comments.
Comments included the following:-
Vital conversation and I agree! We have an “Assorted Borders Biscuits v Tunnocks” divide between Glasgow and Edinburgh – hard to know which way it will go!

One law firm I used to work with had a beautiful lacquered box in each meeting too containing …. Every flavour of club biscuit. Even the fruit one. It was a DELIGHT! This is an initiative I can get behind!
Todd’s Law
In conversation with Andrew Todd on LinkedIn, Gav Ward said “Perfect chocolate biscuit sentiments Sir”, to which Andrew said “thank you, after a few meetings last week there was a definite trend of the larger the firm, the less chance of getting a chocolate biscuit”, to which Gav Ward said “Todd’s Law?”
So, there you have it. Todd’s Law is the trend of: the larger the law firm, the less chance of getting a chocolate biscuit. A term coined by Gav Ward in conversation with Andrew Todd.
At least for the moment, unless the larger law firms can make a drastic change here to meeting room snack policy.

More Eponymous Laws ?
This is hopefully another eponymous law that sticks in future, like Inkster’s Law (after Brian Inkster’s 2:1 ratio of time to check the accuracy of AI generated material), Lemley’s Law (after Mark Zuckerberg’s former lawyer re rate of AI related copyright litigation doubling every 18 months), Ward’s Law (after yours truly) and Millar’s Law (after Douglas Millar’s “Do not do anything that you cannot undo through your own volition”.) Whose (and/or which) law will be next, I wonder? …
Tunnocks at Inksters
P.S. in conversation with Brian Inkster (Founder and CEO of Inksters (Scotland’s Plug & Play Law firm + FSB UK Award winner 2022) | “A one man Scottish legal institution” – The Firm | “Maverick” – insider.co.uk | Lawyer, Speaker & Author), he noted:-
“You get Tunnock’s at Inksters :-)”
Let’s see which other law firms go against the grain …

Undernote: Andrew Todd’s Chocolate Biscuit on Friday 24th April 2026
[As noted on LinkedIn here, Andrew Todd is Group Director – General Counsel & Company Secretary for Springfield Properties plc]
Dear Law Firms,
This week I went to a meeting, and there was not a single chocolate biscuit on the table.
What’s happened to chocolate biscuits in boardrooms?!?!?!
They started to vanish a few years ago: chocolate became shortbread and shortbread became Nature Valley – and Nature Valley has, this week, become 40% less sugar organic oat cookies and some lighter than air rice clusters that look like polystyrene and could fill an Amazon parcel as ballast for delicate objects. I’ve had grains, nuts, natural sweeteners, oaty rounds and a selection of organic cardboard wafers that look and taste like the contents of a woodchipper.
I don’t want to taste plasterboard or a wicker basket when I’m in a meeting. Say no to Canadian Maple Syrup. Bring back chocolate. A KitKat. A Penguin. Why not a plate with both the yellow and the red Rocky bars? Offer both, a classy touch. It’s not too late. Give me a Blue Riband, and I will give you more work*.
Thank you for your attention in this important matter.
